The new and improved RPD has been in existence since the latter part of 1999. It acts as the principal assistant to the Director General, Tax Administration in planning and carrying out Customs Tax Investigations, Internal (employee) Investigation and Internal Audit Programs of the Tax Administration. The department is headed by Mr. Michael Surridge.

The Department also creates maximum possible impact on the compliance, attitudes and practices of taxpayers involved in customs evasion,  through the successful application of civil fund penalties and the pursuit of high impact criminal prosecution cases in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice. The Department also seeks to maximize public awareness of the consequences of bribery and integrity violations through the publicity of successful prosecution cases and other public education endeavours.
